ACHA 2026-27

Shootout eligibility and the goalkeeper's misconduct

Rule numbers: NCAA 91.2 NCAA Appendix B ACHA Additions 91.2

Every player may shoot except one still serving a 10-minute misconduct or one who received a game misconduct or a disqualification. A skater named to serve a goalkeeper's misconduct is also out. If the goalkeeper's misconduct comes during the shootout, the designated server must be a player who has not yet shot. The home team chooses whether to shoot first. No player may shoot twice until everyone eligible has shot, unless injuries or penalties leave one team with fewer eligible players. The spin-o-rama move is not permitted.

When a goalkeeper has been assessed a misconduct, the player designated to serve the misconduct penalty becomes ineligible for the shootout.

Example

A goalkeeper takes a misconduct during the shootout. The skater designated to serve it must be one who has not shot yet, and that skater can no longer shoot.

Common mistake: Letting the skater who is serving the goalkeeper's misconduct shoot, or letting a player shoot twice before all eligible players have shot.
