Time-outs: one per team, and none extra in overtime
Rule numbers: NCAA 92.1 NCAA 92.2 ACHA Additions 92.1, 92.2
The ACHA additions set the time-out rules for regular-season ACHA games. Each team may take one one-minute time-out. A stoppage can hold just one time-out, whether commercial or team, and back-to-back time-outs are not permitted. No time-out is granted after a face-off violation, or to a defending team that is not permitted to substitute. No time-out is granted once penalty-shot instructions have been given, or during a shootout. Overtime brings no extra time-outs. For divisional overtime and shootout details, the additions point to the ACHA Manual and the ACHA overtime guidelines.
Back-to-back timeouts are not permitted.
- Clock
- The game timekeeper times the minute and signals the end.
Example
Team B ices the puck and cannot change. Its coach asks for the team's time-out. The referee denies it.
Common mistake: Granting a time-out to a team stuck on the ice after icing, or giving an extra time-out in overtime.
