Rink situations
Each situation plays out on a to-scale, top-down rink drawn with the markings of the code you pick. The panels show the clock, the penalty bench and the scoresheet at every moment, with the rules behind the play.
- Icing waved off: the defender could have played itUSAH rules · 3-official (1 referee, 2 linespersons)Home ices the puck from its own half, but an Away defender has a clear chance to play it and lets it go. The linesperson waves the icing off; play and the clock never stop.
- Delayed off-side: tag up and re-enterNCAA rules · 4-official (2 referees, 2 linespersons)Two attackers are already in the zone when the puck is dumped in. The defending team can play the puck out, so the linesperson signals a delayed off-side. Once every attacker has touched the blue line, the arm comes down and Home can forecheck. ACHA uses the same NCAA Men's D-I rule.
- Delayed penalty: the whistle waits for controlNFHS rules · 3-official (1 referee, 2 linespersons)Away #8 trips a Home player while Home has the puck. The referee raises an arm and waits. A rebound to #8 is not control. When #8 actually controls the puck, the whistle goes, the clock stops, the penalty goes on the scoresheet and the penalty clock, and #8 goes to the box.
